WAISN operates a statewide Deportation Defense Hotline. The WAISN Deportation Defense Hotline has been operating since 2017 and is the largest and only hotline exclusively dedicated to serving immigrants in the state of Washington. The core mission of the WAISN Deportation Defense Hotline is to take reports of immigration enforcement activity to activate rapid response teams, take reports of detentions and provide friends and family members of detained persons with information and resources, assist with bond fund applications, take requests for accompaniment to sensitive locations, connect community members with information and resources around immigration matters, and share information about a range of community resources of particular interest to our immigrant communities. In 2022, it will be assisting community members with applications for the Washington COVID-19 Immigrant Relief Fund, the King County Relief Fund and the King County Immigration Fee Fund.
Operator Position
The primary purpose of the Operator position is to handle calls from community members to the WAISN phone lines. All phone line Operators are expected to use a range of tools and vetted resources to provide high-quality informed, culturally competent, and caring service to callers.
This is a temporary (approximately 1 year), part-time (approximately 30 hours) position for anyone eligible to work in the United States. The pay range for this position is $25-$35, depending on the level of expertise.
Requirements
Phone line Operators must be bilingual in Spanish and English. Operators will need access to a computer and smartphone in their work. Operators must have reliable high-speed Internet access.
Operators should be computer literate and comfortable enough with technology to effectively use online tools (including our call and text platform, online forms, Microsoft operating systems, and Google Office), their computer, cell phone, communications tools, and email with ease. They must have demonstrated strong writing skills with excellent grammar.
